Breed Comparison & Similarities
If you are faced with a choice between a Cavachon and a Cavapoo puppy, then check out the astonishing traits they possess and what distinguishes them.
Cavapoo vs Cavachon History
The Cavapoo is a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Miniature Poodle, which is also known today as a Toy Poodle. This breed is also called a Cavadoodle. It was initially bred in Australia during the 1990s and then entered the United States, and today, they are being bred throughout the globe. Although they do not have a long history, their parent is mainly a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who dates back to Charles 11.
The very first Cavachon was a mix of pure-breed dogs: the Bichon Frise and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The first Cavachon puppy was born in 1996 in Berryville, Virginia, USA. Since then, this alluring little dog has become a strong favorite in several countries around the globe. However, the major kennel clubs do not accept crossbreeds.
Cavapoo vs. Cavachon Appearance
Both the Cavachon and Cavapoo are smaller dogs that look almost identical. The Cavachon puppies measure about 13 inches or less from the paw to the shoulder and weigh 15 to 20 pounds.
The Cavapoo varies in terms of measurements. They measure around 9 to 14 inches and weigh around 7 to 18 pounds. It is more dependent on whether he is a Miniature Poodle or a Toy mix. When this Cavapoo is a Miniature pup, then they are almost similar in terms of their measurements, with Cavachon being on the bigger side, and if they are a Toy mix, then Cavapoos are smaller.
Since they are both hybrid dogs, their breeding standards have yet to be established, and their appearance strongly differs even in identical litters. Typically, the Cavachon has a medium-length silky, soft, and wave coat, but a few are known for their straight coats.
Due to their Poodle lineage, Cavapoos have curlier coats, which is the easiest way to judge them apart. The Cavapoo coats take around three forms: the common fleece coat, which is silky and soft and almost identical to Cavacgin, and the second common coat, which is the woolen coat with tighter curls.
Cavachons are often lighter in color due to their white Bichon Frise parent; however, they have tan, black, and apricot markings spread throughout the body. Cavapoos, however, have different color options. Their coats can be gold, white, tricolor, or Blenheim.
Cavapoo vs. Cavachon Temperament
The Cavapoo and Cavachon are almost identical, with typically one concerning difference between them. With these being said, the Cavachon is more of a laid-back pup, with both the parents being laid back. At the same time, the Cavappoo with the Poodle lineage is specifically more bouncy and energetic.
Typically, there are two main points of consideration, the first being that the Cavapoo is more suited for active families. At the same time, the Poodle is the conventional kind of work dog that requires work and exercise. At the same time, Cavachons are happier in a more peaceful environment. The Cavapoos have a lot more energy, and numerous owners suggest that they suit the best for a family with slightly older children who are not likely to get knocked off through their bounciness.
Cavapoo vs. Cavachon Exercise
Since the Cavapoos are more energetic than the Cavachon and, therefore, as dogs with medium energy, they would need around 30 minutes to an hour of exercise each day as they need mental stimulation all around the day to prevent them from getting bored. However, the Cavachon, being the low-energy pup, will need about 30 minutes of exercise, and they are happy to snuggle and sleep for the remaining day. It is a huge factor if you plan on choosing between both these breeds. If you are not an active family, then a Cavachon is a well-suited pup, with the Cavapoo being happier with an active family.
Cavapoo vs. Cavachon Grooming
You can groom Cavachons without any hurdles since they would need brushing twice or thrice a week to keep their wavy coats healthier and manageable. On the contrary, the Cavapoo needs to be brushed daily to ensure that its curls do not tangle. The Cavachon parent, the Bichon Frise, and the Cavapoo parent, the Poodle, are hypoallergenic dogs. Numerous breeders would often try to pitch both breeds as hypoallergenic, although this is not the case here.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is never hypoallergenic. Being the mixed breed, it is tough to tell about the characteristics of the Cavapoo and Cavachon, who plan to inherit from their parents, so they are as hypoallergenic as they may not be. Consequently, if you are strictly right after selecting a hypoallergenic dog, then it is a safer bet to stick to these hypoallergenic dogs.
Cavapoo vs. Cavachon Training & Nutrition
Both Cavapoo and Cavachon are extremely trainable due to their intelligent parents, the Poodle and the Bichon Frise. Since they both respond to positive reinforcement training programs, they should learn to socialize earlier with other animals and humans, ensuring that they are confident in unfamiliar surroundings.
The Cavapoo and the Cavachon consume about one cup of food each day, so this is an important factor when considering Cavachon and Cavapoo training and feeding. They both share the same parent lineage, with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel being predisposed to instant weight gain and obesity. Therefore, you should stay mindful about the number of treats you are feeding them, ensuring that the food is age-related.
