Shorkies are a new hybrid, which come as a result of crossbreeding the Shih Tzu and the Yorkshire Terrier. The goal is to breed Shorkies to create a new pure breed.
The History of the Shih Tzu:
- One of the oldest breeds
- Favored by Chinese royals and can be traced back to the Tang dynasty- 618-907
- During the Chinese Revolution, this breed was almost eradicated
- Recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1938
The History of the Yorkshire Terrier:
- Originated in England
- Bred for hunting rodents
- Recognized by American Kennel Club in 1885
- Popular for showmanship and affectionate personalities
